Liegruppen (The Lie Group) of Sotra just outside of Bergen, Norway, has challenged its partners and associates in the maritime segment to make contributions to operation "Bergen4Chile".
Cooperation with the Red Cross
This is a fund-raising event in which funds earmarked for relief to Chile will go to the Red Cross. Liegruppen, which has had fishery operations off the coast of Chile - thereby getting well acquainted with the country and its people - has contributed NOK 10,000 to the earthquake victims. They are challenging partners such as Norwegian Hull Club to do the same.
We have accepted that challenge, and a contribution of NOK 10,000 has been made to "Bergen4Chile".
Immediate positive response
Cristian Valdes Carter, an attorney at Liegruppen, is originally from Chile which gives him a deep and personal involvement in the matter.
"I contacted management at Liegruppen with a request to provide support to the earthquake victims and got a resounding ‘yes' right away," says Carter to Norwegian Hull Club's online editorial staff.
"This has clearly inspired other companies. When I contacted Norwegian Hull Club and other companies, the response was positive and immediate," says Carter.
NOK 95,000 donated this far
He informs us that he has recently had contact with the Red Cross, which indicated that this far a total of NOK 95,000 has been given to operation "Bergen4Chile". Additionally, another fund-raising effort, "Bergen-Hjelper-Chile", has raised around NOK 50,000 coming mostly from private donors, and it cooperation with Save the Children (Redd Barna).
"It is evident that private citizens and the business sector both have a special relationship to Chile, and therefore wish to make a contribution," remarks Cristian Valdes Carter.
